If God exists, he plays this every morning, looking out the dirty window of his small apartment while the Holy Spirit tap dances. Son is busy sweeping up the trash off the street. Some girl broke his heart and he got used to dying inside.

When I met Doc Watson years ago, he told me that MJH had a profound influence on him, and it shows.. Doc said that he was one of the most graceful and amazing pickers that he ever heard.. and given the source, that's a helluva compliment. R.I.P., Mississippi John Hurt.

Is it just me or this song sounds A LOT like Elizabeth Cotten's Freight Train? I'm not claiming Mississippi John Hurt ripped it off, just pointing out the similarity.

I love hearing MJH sing these old traditional tunes, even if he mixes in Ain't No Tellin in with it. To good to even describe with words.

MJH was a very rare example of a Mississippi musician whose skills only IMPROVED with time, avoiding the double jeopardy of age and alcohol, since he lived an honest, hard-working, clean life.
A gentleman in every sense of the word.

He obviously influenced JJ Cale amongst many others.. I've just discovered this genius and beautiful soul, and exceedingly grateful I have!
