Drosera regia info: "Distribution and habitat: South Africa, Cape region; on sandy-peaty soil in short grasslands." "This species is extremely rare in the wild, and is threatened with extinction" (Barthlott, The Curious World of Carnivorous Plants, p. 106).
Pictures of the last few D. regia in the wild: http://terraforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123754
A very helpful page about this species: http://www.carnivorousplants.org/seedbank/species/D_regia.htm

Sometimes, it seems I'm unable to convey the true shape/size of each sundew species using only pictures, so I hope the "video tour" gives you a better understanding about this sundew.

  • Gerrr, so hard to find!

Any tips where I may find one, or do you have any for sale?

  • @UltraXryder I would recommend checking the forums if you already haven't (cpuk in the trade/sale section or terraforums in the trade section). They're becoming a lot more common and some people have tons. cascade is out of stock and carnivorousplantnursery is also out. you can sometimes request to reserve a plant from them (especially california carnivores will do special requests occasionally).

if you don't have luck, i can see what i can do in about a year from now.

  • can you grow these plants with flowers in the same pot or a flower in the pot to create diversity in the pot or vase

  • @heckler171 There are certain types of bog plants that have beautiful flowers. Sundews can be combined with the types of flowers capable of growing in the nutrient poor soils, like peat or sphagnum. But be sure not to use normal soil, like miracle gro potting soil, since this will kill the sundews. There are a few types of carnivorous plants that can handle more nutrients in the soil. Cephalotus is good in this regard, and has been successfully grown in miracle gro soil.

  • Ow, true. Queen is regiNa in Latin,

I guess i really need to restudy that stuff. ;)

  • @STFUbelgium ah, glad to see it is correct lol ;)

  • @sundewman thank you

  • @STFUbelgium :) sounds like someone had their latin screwed up when they gave this plant its English name lol.

  • It's actually the 'queen sundew', regia means 'queen' in Latin ;)

  • @sundewman thanks :D
