Preparing for Your First Shoot

Once you get your first booking or schedule your first test shooting you will need to prepare for the shooting day by making sure you are comfortable posing in front of the camera.

In addition, you need to make sure you are properly groomed by shaving and tweezing your eyebrows.If you dye your hair make sure your roots are not noticeably showing through. If they are, you will need to get that fixed before the shoot day. Check your nails and make sure they are in nice shape. You do not need a manicure unless they tell you ahead of time but if you are wearing black or bright red nail polish, you need to take it off before the shoot!. Only show up at a job with a neutral shade on your nails.

When you're starting out, is there a way to determine from the number of good pictures you take whether or not you are, magic word, "photogenic"? Let's say somebody takes 200 pictures and you look absolutely average in 150 of them (face/eyes are blank, mouth looks crooked, etc), then you have 45 good pictures (you look nice, they'd make pretty gifts for your family but aren't extraordinary), and then there are 5 pics that are stunning. That's 2.5%. Is that bad/normal/good? Should it get better?
