You're partly right but as for the neocons on the culture wars they're a smaller faction that hasn't. If you doubt this their primary philosopher Leo Strauss wanted social conservativism because of it's he thought it was good for a strong society.
Likewise Irving Kristol wanted to use the apparatus of the state to impose social conservativism -something I am not at all adverse to but which appears liberal in form at first glance. Remember the neocons jumped sides because they hated the hippies.

I dont know but im not going to lie to myself about Obama or anybody els thats wants my vote. I think if a large part of us wrote in none oF the above to win in 08 . it would go a long way to show the 2 party dictatorship that we are awake and willing to vote if someone was worth it.
