Goons in Congress Pass 61 Cent A Pack Cigarette Tax

The goons and criminals in Congress have once again decided to attack smokers..in the name of the children..of course. The democrats have lost their mandate in my eyes. Where is a libertarian when you need one? Cigarette taxes hurt the poor far more than the rich and are regressive and stupid. I wish I hadn't voted for single democrat ever (at least I didn't vote for Obama). Bleh. Smokers revolt! In a time of economic depression, why hurt the poor where they hurt the most? Smuggling will be way up. Prohibition always fails eventually. Stand up for your rights.

@tatomuck18 I think this wasn't an argument about businesses raising prices, it was an argument about government raising taxes. And we can make the government lower taxes if we stop electing politicians that believe that the solution to all society's problems is to raise taxes on every "sin" that they think exists. What ever happened to America, Land of the Free? We do have rights, but only if we are willing to stand up and take responsibility for exercising them. Anyhow, its all good.

Actually there are many positives to tabacco smoking such as the enjoyment of smoking. Are you ready to put 100% taxes on fatty food, nutrasweet, and every other so called ill of society? Just remember I was able to buy cigarettes when I was 12 and got addicted until I was 18 I was able to quit because I was coughing up blood!

This is bullshit and it took me by total surprise. When they raised the federal taxes on cigarettes, I was paying $10 more for a carton, which I was able to tolerate. Then, a few months later, the states felt obligated to do the same as well, and wound up paying another $10 in state taxes in addition to the federal taxes. That's $20 more a carton I'm paying for now. I've tried to quit smoking but it was pure hell. So screw you, Obama, cause I plan on smoking until the day I die.
