Hey, Ive stayed at the Oasis hostel in September! I also walked from there and back...never took the bus. I was almost too shocked at how safe I felt being a single female walking through the streets at night. (SMALL WORLD!)Anyways, back to the point, Mexico is very safe for tourists, I would avoid cities like Juarez and Monterrey but that doesnt meant you cant go to other places like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, etc. You just need to be smart, dont get involved with the wrong people.

Puerto Vallarta is safe alright. As long as you stay in your designated areas. Puerto Vallarta is home to some of the most ruthless drug lords in Mexico and it is no stranger to kidnapping and violence. It's ok to say PV is safe but it is pure ignorance to declare it %100 secure. Remember, a U.S. Citizen is still worth thousands dollars or even millions if the person comes from a privileged background. Many people will disclose their financial info to avoid torture. Don't be foolish. Be informed

This is my first time in Mexico and Puerto Vallarta. I am already in love with Mexico and the amazing people that I have met! I live at Oasis Hostel and I feel really safe staying there. Media forget to show the real side of Mexico. They forget about the amazing food, the nice people, the culture and the nature. Before people make up their mind about what they think about a country they have to stop listening to media. Puerto Vallarta is an amazing city that everybody has to visit!
