In 1971 when I was 16 years old, and when most of my contemporaries were (and probably still are) listening to the likes of Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton, my life was turned around by hearing this first recording session by Bunk. The power of this music to move me remains undiminished.

2.17 seconds in is one of my 5 favorite MOMENTS in the entire history of music, I LOVE BUNK i cannot be anything but emotional about it, I could write 10.000 words (and probably have lol) on how great it is, or i can listen to it again and be proud that I live in the same planet Bunk lived in!!! BUNK LIVES 4EVER!!!

Willy Bunk Johnson is a jazz legend!

Great words. There's many of us Out There who think like you....we are lucky to appreciate this golden music.
If you like this you'll love 'Mahogany Hall Stomp' by George Lewis and his New Orleans Jazz Band on You Tube.......played as only black Americans can play......fantastic!

@RobeGre I still do. I found this pokin' around in the dusky dusty archives and said: "WHOA!"! Who is THIS dude!! I loved it instantly. Talent is like gold. It's wherever you find it and Bunk is pure gold. !;-)

Suena como muy rockanroll no???
It was not recorded by Bill Russell, though he was present.

I have not been there. So I have to take my information wherever I find them. Tom Bethell says in his book "George Lewis A Jazzman From New Orleans" that the records were made by Dave Stuart, Gene Williams and "Bill Russell". I just can't make shure that this is right !
