From the time he was a child, Charles Farmer (BILLY BOB THORNTON) had only one goal: to be an astronaut. Earning his degree in aerospace engineering and joining the Air Force as a pilot, Farmer was a natural for NASA's astronaut training program and was well on his way when a family situation forced him to drop out and return home - effectively ending his career.

Ridiculous premise...and features one of the most self-centered protagonists in movie history. Screw his families security and well being...he has a dream! I would put this in the White Man fantasy category of bad films!

His dream came true not only bacause he was going for it, but because he also had a great support from his wife. What about her dreams? Are there any examples of "great people" who did "things", only by themselves? I mean, to have my dream come true, does she have to give up her dreams or believe that my thoughts are her dreams too?
