On the 75th anniversary of Social Security, President Obama promises to protect it from Republican leaders in Congress who have made privatization a key part of their agenda. He makes clear that, especially in light of the financial crisis, gambling Social Security on Wall Street makes no sense.

  • It makes you wonder why the GOP spends so much time attacking and trying to dismantle SS rather than promoting policies and programs that would immediately help Americans and our economy. The GOP obstructs and obfuscates while families lose jobs, incomes and their homes. There is only one rational conclusion, the Republican party doesn't care about the well being of average Americans, only in supporting the 'big dogs' who thrive in 'free market' anarchy.

Yeah so many people forget that there used to be quite a few parties. There even used to be a Democratic-Republican Party. The two party system sucks.

  • @redbaroniii -Nice speech but if you look at my comments of the past you will see that much of what I have said has never been mentioned on CNN. And if it was the point is not where my info came from but if it is true or not. Your are free to refute anything I have said in the past. Looking forward to your doing so

  • @urparanoia You are right the left is exactly the type you describe. They are the most sheep minded people beliveving everything their masters tell them. You too are one of them that just mouths the same lies from CNN. I will not chucle when, and if the left finaly desroys America.

  • @javie793 -Imagine the small minded one day waking up to discover they are contributing to their own demise? Conservative must be getting a big chuckle when they see the very people they are taking advantage of supporting them. Most of the small minded have only one strategy-deny, deny, deny and they actually think their ignorance and repeating headlines without knowing substance is working for them. Nice to hear from someone who sees them for what the are.

  • Well said @sphygmu. Man, I finally found a smart person with some commonsense, and i've been looking for a while. Why are most americans so, well, dumb? Anyway, I am a proud american who wishes my country would defend me, instead of the corporation! Now, let's arm ourselves with knowledge, and go pick on dumb people!!! Maybe we can make a difference!

  • redbaroniii ((WOW)) I didn't know people as dumb as you actually still existed this day in age. Boy was I wrong! All I can say, from the bottom of my heart. Please read!!!!

  • ((WOW)). I didn't know people as dumb as you actually existed. Boy was I wrong!

  • @sphygmu-The reason is they see the benefits of all that SS money being dumped on Wall Street. The financial security of older U.S. citizens is not a thought in their mind. There is no doubt that they do not care about labor or the elderly This country has been going downhill since the election of Reagan and the future only looks worse. Nothing will ever change until voters see that conservatives are no friend of the average citizen.

  • @res05aum - Again do the math and who gets $ 800.00 ? Based on the question you ask do you really understand how SS works ? I find it ironic that you have a problem paying in to SS but have no problem with taxpayer dollars going to corporate welfare. Your "free market" is subsidized in many ways by U.S. taxpayers and the working class which has lost a great deal while corporate profits rise.Funding SS is a problem down the road but at this time and for a few more yrs it remains solvent.
