My daily beater to and from Tempe, AZ. The infamous W123 Chassis. Here is the 240D model doing a 0-60 MPH run. Enjoy!

  • 240d should do 0 to 60 in about 21 to 22 sec

thats what the magazines of the day said

turbo 300d is like 13 sec

  • I could have pushed 2nd gear a little more, but I doubt that would subtract 10 seconds from my time lol.

  • 30 seconds means you have some big power problems. When was the last time you did a valve adjustment?

  • Just did the valve adjustment and WOW! Its a different car! Thanks for the advice! I counted 19 seconds on my 0-60mph... Im going to have to make a new video now LOL!

  • hehe awesome video, I remember a good friend in high school had an '82 automatic. Still the slowest vehicle I've ever driven. I had a 26' U-Haul truck packed full and it still managed 39.6 sec to 60 mph (I was bored and timed it). Still, I loved it when I drove it, definately a car with character

  • lol so true! my mom had a 240D automatic back in the day and I made sure I found one with a manual transmission lmao. It is actually not that bad with the stick since you can control the car's powerband which isnt much (62hp). It is one of the most enjoyable cars I have ever driven! Keeping her for a LONGGG time!

  • @EdwardPack1988 Depending on the rear gear, 100-107mph from factory.

  • Top speed?

  • I have a 1981 240d automatic, i just got it from a friend with only 140k miles on it. Only real problem its got right now is a weird thumping in the back somewhere near the wheels or axel, doesnt sound healthy at all. Gonna have it checked out but if anyone else has had similar issue please feel free to share with me your experience or solution. Car looks beautiful and runs great aside from this issue, just want to restore it to its full majesty.

  • @Turbo617 What year caddy is this one??

  • My '81 manual does it in about 22 seconds or so. Did they change the speedometer in '83? Mine only goes up to 85mph, so it's really difficult for me to tell when I'm at the right speed to travel back in time.

  • I bet you 100 bucks mine is slower:)

  • Also I have been debating swapping out that tired old 2.4 non turbo diesel, and Im thinking of swapping a newer turbo diesel, do you think that I will get away with Emissions in AZ with a new VW TDI and a 6 speed in that thing? I mean it does run cleaner and it will go a lot faster then ever a 300D swap. what do you think? I have 2 240D's one for everyday and one for fun.

  • your shift point are a little off, 1st gear to 25, 2nd gear to 37, and 3rd to 60. thats absolute best 0-60 you will get I got my 1982 240D to 60 in 18.9 and it has 350K+ miles on it and it still have the original clutch, I dont get how its lasted that long but hey at least I dont have to pay out money to fix this thing, ever...lmao.

  • Why "infamous"?

  • I own a white 240d and it has never broken down on me! ahaha good old reliable!!! love the car! 4 speed tansmission! too.
