Classic Game Room HD shows how to hook up an Atari 2600 to a modern television set, HDTV, LCD or Plasma big screen. Also, we answer some questions regarding what Atari video computer system to buy (the 2600 woodie, Atari 2600 Jr. or Atari 7800 prosystem). This handy instructional video will show you how to hook up an Atari 2600 to a modern VCR. We show what wires to use with the Atari 2600. We show how to hookup an Atari 2600 and 7800 to a tv or television with modern video inputs like component, s-video and composite (you'll use composite) and or RF Coax. We show what Radio Shack equipment to buy to make it work. Classic Game Room loves Atari and all of the great video games that are available from the 1970's to the 1980's. These old school classics should be kept alive and playing for future generations. Learn how to plug in and hookup and play an Atari 2600 from this video demonstration showing you how to hook up an Atari!!! Play games like Combat, Yars' Revenge, Vanguard, Ms. Pac Man, Robotron, Berzerk, Tapper, Demon Attack, Actionauts and Mario Bros. (before it was Super Mario Brothers). Hooking up an Atari is very different than an Xbox 360, Playstation, NES, PS3, PS2 and Wii. Have fun playing Atari!

  • Awsome, there's no radio shack near me so I found an "RF Female Socket to F Type Screw Male Plug Adapter" on Amazon, now when I get my atari I can record it,would it work if I I hooked up RCAs ffrom the "out" on the back of my VCR to my capture card?

  • I just bought/ordered an Atari 2600 on Ebay right now! What the heck is wrong with me?! I think I got a good deal though, $45 total. It works, has 2 joysticks, 2 paddles, power supply cord, RF adapter, & 12 games. We'll see. Can't wait !

  • Love my old 2600 but......definitely NOT the best looking system...maybe coolest or most original though

  • Great advice, thanks! Bought the female RCA/male coax connector at Radio Shack for under $5 and it worked perfectly for the atari 2600 - wood grain. No need to also use a vcr, just plug it right into your TV coax input. Kind of a long video to get to that simple solution though.

  • Hmmmm....best looking console ever made?? Really??

  • very informative video

  • 28 people have the atari 5200 and cant hook it up

  • @MrEpicAaron No. In fact, the 5200 MAKES you use the boxy converter, but it has to be the special 5200 one. The 5200 only has one wire coming out of it, and it plugs into the box. You plug the power supply into the box, and THEN you plug the coax cable from the box into the TV. The AVGN weighs in on this here:
