Occupy Oakland Protesters Seize and Burn American Flag at City Hall - 28 Jan 2012 - 7:15 PM #OO

Protesters entered City Hall and removed several items, including office furniture and apparently some documents. An American flag taken from inside was ignited on the front steps around 7:15 PM.

NOTE: Not everyone present was supportive of the actions. In fact, some people on Facebook have deleted comments in a discussion where this video was posted in which i stated i personally disagreed with these protesters' actions. Those people would like to label me as a "traitor" rather than a patriot who believes in free speech and right of people to do things which i may think are stupid (like this). I do not condone illegal actions and i generally do not find flag burning to be a constructive statement, for what it's worth.

I watched in horror as they ignited it and gleefully chanted, "Burn it!" But the flag they were burning was not the American flag, but one often confused with it: an American flag with 3-gold fringes on it represents Maritime Law. There's a powerful difference between an American flag with yellow fringes and one without. One is Constitutional, the other is not. A simple decoration is enough to change the whole entire meaning of it without being realized by the vast majority of people.
