@Tripp1993 It dates back to 1985 where Margaret Thatcher was close friends with the head of Carlton who wanted to take over the company in 1985, but the IBA blocked the buy. Then in 1991 after Thames made an episodeof 'This Week' which Thatcher considered an act of treason, she made ITV go through it's 1992 franchise auction and Thames bid too low. Well that's the abridged version of events, from what I've heard.

Why?

@Tripp1993 You can add Margeret Thatcher to that list too!

I have this one on my Men Behaving Badly Video ( Series 1), it is a shame that they went along with many good ones. ITV is rubbish now, full of reality garbage. Idents were fun.

Strange because the opening of the logo where the picture emerges from the darkness reminds me of a pantomine for some reason with the amazing music. I prefer this logo over the older one.

Thames was killed off by the ITC and Conservative government - their weapon of choice was the Broadcasting Act 1990.
Mind you, Carlton are pretty rubbish, and a certain current Prime Minister was on its board of directors...

I have this on my Wind in the Willows Four Seasons VHS,
God bless Thames TV. Killed by the EVIL Carlton Television in 1993!
