  • @McLarenMercedes ohh yes!! Greetings :)

  • @peterbowyermgb

    The Honda V12 in the McLaren driven by Senna in 1991 and 1992 had a characterstic V12 sound too. Sadly it was a bit too heavy and complex. Honda should have stuck with their V10 concept from 1989-1990.

  • @AmiableAndy - HI! back then in the 60/80es Matra Sport was subsidiary to Matra Aerospace. I can't say if Matra mother corporate is still running any activity nowaday.

    Matra did also produce little sport cars in those years: nothing exceptional though.

    Ugly cars omop.

    Cool. I only read about them in motorsport magazines a few years ago. I also believe that hearing an engine through computer loudspeakers is nowhere near the same thing as hearing it live. Consider yourself lucky.

  • @McLarenMercedes HI! I heard these engines at Monza 1000,and during a private

    testing session by Ligier-Matra F1 team at Paul Ricard circuit(those ugly Ligier with extrasize periscope air duct ,Gitanes sponsored) driven by J.P.Beltoise as a tester.Unique sound: as raw as musical.Alas performance and reliability were not up to the sound ! On the sport prototypes Matra 650 the engine had trucklike reliability though...probably detuned for long term races.

  • @indigoblue555

    Yeah. most people who heard it agree. They said that if the engine was a competitive as it sounded it would have won every race.

    Such a shame Chris Amon was denied a well deserved victory in Clermont-Ferrand back in 1972 driving the Matra.

  • Is the Matra engine made by, or affiliated with any other auto manufacturer? I mean, is Matra a subsidiary to, or in co-operation with, like, Maserati or some other ?llll and yes it sounds kewl llll

    >;}

  • Matra V 12 one of the best sounds ever heard on F1 circuits.

  • the FERRARI 639 at the german gp 1989 , mansell just after his first pit stop coming down the strait the sound was beautiful , natural . worthy of the prancing horse

  • The Matra V12 engine is certainly the best sounding French racing engine, but the 312PB Ferrari and the BRM V16 take some beating.
