The song was written by Charlie Louvin as Cash On The BarrelHead and was originally performed by Charlie and Ira Louvin as The Louvin Brothers around the late 1950's.
Although Ira Louvin died in 1965, Charlie is still performing on WSM's Grand Ole Opry and sometimes hosting The Erenst Tubb Record Shop's Midnight Jamboree.
From my all time favourite Dolly recording- "The Grass is Blue" She is a trooper! Great singing and great music. another track on the same cd " Silver Dagger" makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck , due to Dolly's interpretation. Her voice is beautiful.
