best way to get good at iv, FUCKING PRACTICE

To hell with IV starts...we paramedics get plenty of that. I'd like her to take me out shopping for ice cream bars.

Add a tag to this for EMS. As an NREMT-I, I wish I saw this video before I got my Cert. I would have had a lot more success than I did in the first month.

...what's the difference b/t above vs on top of the catheter tip?
kht124 2 months ago
@kht124 Hi. I used to hold pressure on the catheter and that didn't stop the blood from coming out through the catheter. But if you hold it above, you won't have any blood trickling from the catheter after retracting the needle. If that makes sense.

I wish I would have watched this before I was in the ER last night for clinicals! I had a pt that requested a nursing student and consequently I gave him a small bloodbath by not putting pressure in the correct spot on the catheter :( ..but, got it in the vein :)..Pt said I did a good job after all that..

@TheValerievalentina That's funny that a patient requested a student. Ha ha. I know how those blood baths can be, but hooray for getting it in the vein!! Good job!!

I had the nastiest hematoma from a nurse in the ER going through my vein. It didnt hurt but man did it leave a nasty bruise! She felt so bad and was actually shocked that I want mad that it took 6 trying to get a line in! (my veins love to roll and blow...but they normally dont have THAT much issue getting an IV in) my mom has been a RN for 5 years and she still hates doing IVs lol I hate giving shots to the horses let alone letting and IV (which I let the vet do lol)

@FoxBoss831 Wow!! Sounds like your veins are challenging. IV punctures can leave some nasty bruises, but at least you have a good attitude. =)
