Großes Jazz-Orchester mit Refraingesang: Oh Luise
[= Jean Litwin's Syncopators, Refraingesang Emil Petroff]

Gerngross 6002 (Mx. No.: 201, also released on Kalliope K 1870)

Vienna, early 1933

This was originally recorded and released by Austrian Phönix/Kalliope. The Kalliope bears the band's and vocalist's full names, whereas the rare "Gerngross" dime store pressing shows the usual meaningless pseudonym. Emil Petroff was a well known Viennese tenor, acting at the Theater an der Wien and even at the State Opera. But who "Jean Litwin" really was remains a mystery. It's most probably a pseudonym, but Litwin's stiff style reminds a lot of Pauscher's recordings. Later Litwin records (on Phönix, 1935 / 36) sound totally different, much more relaxed and swinging. Can anyone help lifting the secret?
