This is what can happen if your battery leads are not tightened down - radical catastrophic engine failure as described by John Edwards @ Costa Mesa R&D Automotive Machine www.engine-machining.com (949) 631-6376

  • Oh my. Is that a Mitsubishi 4G63?

  • @duanedragon2 - Yes, 06 Evo IX.

  • Loose battery leads will not cause this. A shit-for-brain ECU and a piss-poor alternator that can't handle basic engine functions will, however.

An engine in a car should be able to operate with no battery whatsoever, solely on power from the alternator, with no fear of exploding a rod like this. The ECU, in addition, should default to "OFF" if system voltage drops far enough below spec where an error such as the one that caused this would happen.

  • all of you are dum it was to much air on the tires

  • I know nothing whatsoever about engines, but I'm still going to interject my opinion, which I expect everyone to take VERY seriously, then I'm gonna finish up with a Chuck Norris reference.

    Ahem.

Your engine's broke. You probably broke it by doing something stupid, which I condemn you for, although I don't actually have enough knowledge to say what it is.

Chuck Norris could fix that engine.

    Thanks.

  • I would say this was caused by excessive rpm, a loose positive connection on the ecu would more likely stop the engine.

  • Chuck Norris said only 8 pistons can pump 480hp 245 on a 4 is un-american, thus the failure!

  • Too many fly's on the flywheel.

  • Come on! You all are retard. He forgot to put the lug nut on the wheel

  • stop being silly now, no it didnt loose battery leads do not throw legs out of bed. the worst thing that could have happened is ecu failure in which it would shut down, supply nothig to nothing no go at worst. spuntanious block explosion would be higher up my list of possible causes than loose battery leads. them engines are renowned for big end probs same as subys boxer engine.

  • The radio was not on the correct station

  • So how exactly did the "battery leads" cause this...?

  • this car is just poorly tuned , if the car has ni voltage it will not fire and fall out, if it does, it keeps running, nothing in between.

if this happens, the engine was ni good, typical big end failure
