LOCATION: Di Fara (Avenue J, Midwood, BROOKLYN)

GUEST(S): Shawn Amaro

ORDER: 1 slice of plain (regular), 1 slice of plain (square)

PIZZA REPORT: An absolute masterpiece. Watching Dom Demarco work tirelessly. He sculpts his crust, paints the dough canvas, Jackson Pollacks (yes, I'm using it as a verb!) the cheese upon the sauce, and even lays down his toppings artistically. It's an art and art can't be rushed...so, be prepared to wait.

ATMOSPHERE: Dingy, florescent lighted, with a few wobbly tables and some chairs scattered about describes the seating area. Jockey for position while ordering since there is no method to the madness. Hope for an available not-too-greasy table when your slices finally do emerge. The unwritten rule in Dom's pizza place is to try to leave your table a bit cleaner than it was when you arrived. Aside from grease and hungry people, there are fresh herbs growing in the window up front and a plethora of newspaper articles hung all around the wall. The word is out on Dominici Demarco. He makes the best pizza. And if you can put up with the journey, the line, the poor dining area, and a bit more expensive slice ($3 plain, $4 topping), then you will see just what all the fuss on the walls is all about.

VERDICT: 4 out of 5

MISC:
Shawn Amaro taped a lot of footage but I stupidly taped over it. There is some good stuff in the video, but primarily me apologizing.

  • that is right three dollor...you think it would be cheaper no employer to pay....what is going to happen uh...you know when...ic an't say there goes the buisness...i wonder if he has children waiting in the wings..practing there pizza making skills...oh well...

  • I don't want Di Fara to ever go away. I have heard that Dom had a couple of relatives (sons or maybe nephews) open up a pizza joint called DeMarco's on Houston St. Sadly it was closed not too long ago soon after an employee was killed on the premises. I don't know if the closing was a direct result of that but I do think the pizza was pretty solid.

  • I have never been even tho I live in Brooklyn (if Park Slope still qualifies as Brooklyn) but I think the fact that it's in an old neighborhood whose residents have a long history there makes it kind of cool. Doing a search of Bklyn pizzarias, I'm finding that overwhelmingly, ppl rate Di Fara's pizza the best.

  • This is it! The holy grail of pizza!

  • now that is a good pizza for sure...as you can seeim writing my op in every day...so pardon me...

  • i grew up on his pizza. who informed you about this pizzaria? there are so many all over brooklyn.
