Locomotives 4461, 4488, 4458, 4463 & 4703 on the front, and 4472 & 1437 on the rear hauling LVRF train no.4168 up Cowan bank on Friday November 10th, 2006.
As long as the Australian cousins of ALCO PA units pull and push container freight, the world is still a nice place. Some US PAs and FAs were equipped with full headlights on the tail end, but not dual controls. They ran back end first anyway!
waa i only wish that today there was more 44s hauling freight on the short north i would love to see a train hauled by heratage units not the restored one but the ones in service 5/5
The first 5 locomotives are all Australian built, the first 4 being 44 class Alcos, the 5th one being a 47 class 'Hitachi/Caterpillar' contraption. The locomotive before the MZ at the rear was another 44.
It's a shame that the different passenger trains you mentioned don't run now. I'm living in China and the train services just keep improving all the time here.
Their model designation is DL500B built by A.E Goodwin of Auburn in Sydney 1957 & 1968 under licence from ALCo for the New South Wales Government Railways (NSWGR). There was 100 of the class 4401 to 44100 and 19 of the class have been saved from the scrappers torch. The 44 class could be found almost anywhere on the NSW rail network and worked all loco-hauled passenger trains which included the Indian Pacific, Southern Highlands Express, Brisbane Limited & the Melbourne/Sydney Expresses etc.
The silver locomotove is also danish: Litra MZ and also from DSB... The first four units doesn't look like danish Nohab locomotives, the danish Nohabs (Litra MY, MX) were streamlined in both ends. Maybe modified after delivery?

Only 1437 (ex DSB MZ1437), the silver one, is Danish. The MY's and the MX's where sold around Scandinavia, but a lot of them has been scrapped.
