I don't think geography is a subject that is taken very seriously in the U.S.. I can't tell you why that is though. I'm an American, and in my school it was taught to us in 7th grade and we had tests on it, but I doubt half of my class even bothered studying for those tests. It's likely gotten worse since I was in school. I'd wager that most Americans couldn't name every state if pointed out on a map, let alone provinces in other countries.

If you want to check out another great Canadian show, track down Corner Gas. It's sort of at the opposite end of the comedy spectrum, being family-friendly and generally silly. But it's a great show once you get to know the whole town's worth of characters.
