@PLEASANTDesigns Judy Garland perhaps didn't but Marilyn Monroe certainly did. And I and millions still love her. Lucille Ball did;she was a prostitute in New York in the 1930's and Hollywood knew it and didn't care. Rock Hudson had to sleep with his agent to get him to represent him and that agent was known for making sleeping with him a condition for getting work for all his famous clients. James Dean was a well known male whore...I can go on for a while. So now no more hypocrisy unlike then.

To james1200: I'd like to offer an alternative view on this point you made: "Those of you who are attacking the music of your fathers are missing out and y'all who are attacking my generation are too."

Consider this: Nobody is missing out on anything simply because they don't like it. Music is emotional, so it can't be forced on people. And emotions lead people to music they like.

Also, my M. M. from Juilliard taught me that music, which is entertainment, is "good" if someone likes it. :)

@james1200 You must have misread my comment. I am not "hating on" as you say anyone's music (y'all??) You have your guard way up. I studied classical music, I am a professional musician, and I teach music. My tastes sail across all times, cultures, and genres. I don't think subsequent generations of music stinks anymore than I think music from 400 years ago stinks. I love MUSIC. I love GOOD music. I am not pigeon holing you, so please don't do the same to me.

@swarze Whatever. I know enough history to know that every new generation that's coming up is considered to have inferior culture. They said it about jazz & swing in the 20's, those kids grew up & hated on rock in the 50's, & they grew up and hated on metal & disco & so on & so on. I'm in my twenties and I love Judy Garland, I love Sinatra, I love GaGa, Madonna. @james1200 The "information" you are touting here is speculation from a highly criticized and disputed book. It is a load of rubbish. I am not saying that former generations were pure as snow, but I think these assertions are absurd. BUT I will say that artists like this had to actually PERFORM the song without all the bells and whistles they have today. It is refreshing seeing and hearing music recorded LIVE. No reverb, no crap play back, no pyrotechnics...just the music.
