A pileated woodpecker in a pine tree searching for insects under the bark. This is one of, if not the, largest woodpecker species in North America.

  • We have those in our back yard. They are so beautiful. We also have red-headed and Harried wich I have on my video at Mrose13006. I am going to try to get a video of all hard to spot birds. Planning on getting Mama and baby Osprey's.

  • Ospreys! How cool. I filmed a few a couple years ago. They are in my first "Raptors" vid. Sure I'd love to watch your vid. I had a woodpecker in my yard that I couldn't ID. I'll post video soon. I love the Pileateds we have lots of them in the area but it's hard to film them.

Thanks for watching and the nice comment.:)

  • I hate the fact that this bird looks so much like an ivory woodpecker(convergent evo.). that has allowed all these false sightings.

  • Yeah, I here of lots of sightings around these parts but I'm sure it's the pileated being mis-identified.

  • Thats awsome! I filmed mine in my backyard in Hastings Mi., my 3 year old redheaded granddaughter spotted it . . said there was a bird in the tree with red hair just like hers! They are big, this one seemed larger than a crow. . . .check out my video, a had to peek around the corner of my house to get it.

  • What a cute story! I bet she was happy to see another pretty red-head.:)

Thanks for watching, this one was filmed in my backyard, south Alabama. I see them all the time, but rarel get close enough to get any good video. They are one of my favorite birds!

  • These birds nest on my property every spring, they seem to prefer aspen nearing there lifecycle or even mature dead standing aspen to nest in at least here, alas I missed them nesting this year and couldn't film them flying into there hole feeding there young.

  • Hi! These are my favorites of the woodpecker family. They are magnificent creatures and I film them when ever I see them.

Thanks for watching, cheers back at ya.:)

  • Wow! That's teriffic. I had the pleasure of seeing one yesterday. They're such a cool bird to see. I hope that I'm lucky enough to see more of them this spring! Cheers

  • They're incredibly hard to film. I see them often, but getting a good shot with the camera is a different story! I feel lucky to have gotten this bit of footage. Thanks for watching.:) Happy new year!
