The Preparatory Committee for the International Wushu Federation in August 1985 held in Xi'an, China, the first established during the International Wushu Invitational Tournament. In October 1990 in Beijing, China formally established the International Wushu Federation.
After a decade of efforts, the International Wushu Federation has become the world's five continents and 83 member associations of the international sports organizations, and in 1994 in Monaco by international sports federations accepted as full members, in June 1999 in South Korea Seoul at the International Olympic Committee plenary sessions of the International Olympic Committee recognition. Since 1991, the International Wushu Federation has in China, the outlook for West Asia, the U.S., Italian and Hong Kong, China successfully hosted the fifth world Wushu Championship.
With the rapid development of the International Wushu, wushu competition on a higher demand. Therefore, the Chinese Wushu Association, commissioned by the International Wushu Federation, some members of the Association organized an expert Creating a new international wushu competition routines, including the long fist, sword, broadsword, cudgel and spear, technology by International Wushu Federation Committee approval, and in November 1999 by the Hong Kong International Wushu Federation Congress. Routine is published five books as to the tenth anniversary of the International Wushu Federation's gift.

国际武术联合会筹备委员会于1985年8月在中国西安市举办的第一届国际武术邀请赛期间成立。1990年10月在中国北京正式成立了国际武术联合会。
经过十年的努力，国际武术联合会已发展成拥有世界五大洲83个会员协会的国际体育组织，并于1994年在摩纳哥被国际体育单项联合会接纳为正式成员，1999年6月又在韩­国汉城举行的国际奥委会全会上得到国际奥委会的承认。从1991年起国际武术联合会先后在中国、观来西亚、美国、意大利和中国香港成功地举办了五届世界武术锦标赛。
随着国际武术运动的迅速发展，对武术竞赛提出了更高的要求。为此，中国武术协会受国际武术联合会的委托，组织了部分会员协会的专家创编了新的国际武术竞赛套路，包括长拳、­剑术、刀术、棍术和枪术，经国际武联技术委员会审定，并在1999年11月香港国际武联代表大会上通过。现出版五个套路的书籍作为向国际武术联合会成立十周年的献礼。
