@oddfellowfloyd I have gone threw this it doesn't hurt. When you have gone from not hearing to hearing sound it can be scary especially for a child.

@Importzkiller You make me sick. You shouldn't speak about things you don't know about. I don't know what make believe world you live in, but in the real world deaf and hearing impaired are expected to lip read as way of communicateing. I know because I have lived it all my life. This surgery is a way to bring both the hearing impaired and the deaf together. Why do you want to keep its separate ?

@joshquain Speech is not a language, it's a skill. And ASL is as much a natural language as English. She has every right to learn both (also, you need not speak to know English).
By the way, "raped" in that context simply meant stolen.

@Importzkiller Oh knock it off you are silly. I would much rather wear a device to hear then be deaf. She will realize when she gets older that she'd much rather hear the beautiful sounds around her. And she'd much rather hear cars coming in traffic, people yelling for her, etc. Maybe you're a little bitter because you couldn't afford this device for your family because i don't no anyone who'd rather be deaf then wear a device. Get a grip.

I would think five people all yelling over each other in the room would be a bad idea in such a situation. Didn't you think she might want just a very few beautiful sounds at first, and not a cacophony??
