In 1998, a game called "Half-Life" was released. Much to the surprise of the gaming world, it was discovered that intelligence--as well as reflexes--can make for a highly enjoyable gaming experience. The makers of Half-Life, Valve Software, have made regular breakthroughs that shape the games we play today. Not the least of these is the Source engine; a masterful backbone to gaming that provides real-time physics, true-to-life characters, and dazzling video effects. However, when faced with pairing their classic title with the new technology, the result was little more than a polished re-run. (see: Half-Life: Source) "Black Mesa: Source" is a volunteer team of mappers, 3D-modelers and general game developers driven to re-make the 1998 classic using the full possibilities of the Source engine and truly bring new life to the most intriguing storyline in modern gaming. Using only open-source technology on my home PC, this is my homage to a spectacular re-make of a classic. Enjoy.
