In this first of 9 videos, Maureen Conroy, Professor of Special Education and Policy Development at Virginia Commonwealth University, discusses Increasing Early Social -- Communication Skills and covers the subjects of Prevalence, Characteristics and Service Delivery Challenges and provides an overview of the series. This Communities of Practice in Autism (CoPA) Advanced level training focused on strategies to support families with young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in natural environments. Covered in these videos will be an overview of scientifically-based practices that are linked to learning needs and styles in young children with ASD. This will be a contemporary approach incorporating principals of early intervention and ABA strategies. The goals for the workshop are to provide participants with training and expertise in scientifically based practices and to set the stage for local communities of practice in Virginia.
