I read that this type of owl can prey on golden eagles.....is that true?

Watching the transition-to-approach and slow-flight dynamics in this video is just amazing. As a Pilot myself (though inactive for over 20 years), it's interesting to watch the owl leave cruise flight, go through flaps extension and gear extension (though performed somewhat out of order compared to how a flier with metal wings would do it), and finally at the end be operating at very high angle of attack, low airspeed, and close to the stall.

Notice too how the owl does not blink all the way through the approach.

I have seen one of these in the wild in the Netherlands.

It has been one of my favorite birds ever since. The sheer size of them is amazing, and how they're afraid of almost nothing. You can walk up to them and they don't even care. They have no enemies due to their size.

watch it's head when it gets close. claws are retracted. an amazing animal.

some people would like to hear music to this video, that's cool. but, owls are one of the quietist birds in the world. i would rather hear actual sound.
