Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp was admitted to the bar and is licensed to practice law in Florida, 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court. He has served as a law clerk to two United State District Court Judges. Jeff Kottkamp was a partner in largest law firm (Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt) between Tampa and Miami for 14 years. He defended businesses such as Publix against frivolous lawsuits.
In 2000, he ran for the Florida House of Representatives and was elected. He was reelected in 2002 and in 2004. While serving in the Florida House, Kottkamp helped form the Freedom Caucus with a group of freshman legislators which staunchly opposed any new taxes or fee increases. He was appointed Governmental Operations Committee Chair; Judiciary Appropriations Committee Chair; Rules & Calendar Council Vice Chair; and select Committee on Constitutional Amendments Vice Chair. He served on the Fiscal Council; Judiciary Committee; Select Committee to Protect Private Property Rights; State Administration Council; and was appointed by Speaker of the House to Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission in 2001. During his time in the Legislature, he was honored by the Professional Opticians of Florida as Legislator of the Year in 2001; the Florida Chamber of Commerce as their "Top 20 Quick Starter Legislator" in 2001; the Florida Chamber's "A" Honor Roll in 2002-2005; the Trust for Public Land's Legislative Leadership Award in 2002; the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section's Legislator of the Year in 2003; the Florida Building Materials Association's Legislator of the Year in 2003. He also won the Florida Bar's President's Legislative Award in 2004; the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association's House Leadership Award in 2004; the Florida Dispute Resolution Center Award in 2004; the Florida Alarm Association's Legislator of the Year in 2004; the Christian Coalition of Florida's "2004 Faith and Family Award": the Associated Industries of Florida's Champion for Business Award in 2004; the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers' Outstanding Representative in 2004; the Academy of Florida Trail Lawyers' "Legislative Leadership Award" in 2005; and the Florida Catholic Conference "Defensor Vitae" Award in 2006.
