This is a tribute to Sonny Igoe. He came up with this cadence for a session he did for the NFL. Tommy explains this on his DVD. From what I understand, this drum cadence was the only music playing behind the entrance of the NFL logo. Yes... I said MUSIC!! It is an EXTREME RARITY that a piece of music, PLAYED ENTIRELY ON THE DRUMS, can stand alone to provide a mood and feel in a commercial setting!!! This is a testament to the ABSOLUTE and UNWAVERING musicianship of Sonny Igoe. He did not play a drum solo filled with trickery and a bazillion notes. Mind you, he could have if he wanted to!! Instead, he played a piece of music for the situation at hand that MOVED PEOPLE. This musicianship has obviously been passed to his son Tommy Igoe, as you can tell from Tommy's approach to playing drums! This approach is the same approach that Tom Geisler and I feel is the ULTIMATE way to approach playing the instrument. In light of that, we wanted to play this as a tribute to Sonny and his musicianship. So, we made a simple arrangement as a duet as a small token of our appreciation for what Sonny has given to the drumming community which is now being conveyed through the endeavors of his son Tommy. We hope Sonny and Tommy enjoy this at least a little bit!!!!

  • What do you guys hear via your head phones?

  • @KleinerRoterSatan

Good question. With this track it's just a click since I recorded my drum track first.

Fran is probably playing along to my performance. Normally we would have the tune we are recording to in the headphones.
