Eight Belles collapses at Kentucky Derby 2008

After completing the Kentucky Derby 2008 with a second place finish, Eight Belles collapsed due to two broken ankles and was immediately euthanized.

I think the major problem in horse racing is the poor breeding judgment of the breeders and the simple fact the horses are being raced too early. It seems like the horses are getting bulkier in size, but their legs don't have the substance to support the extra muscle. Also, being raced at such a young age predisposes the horses to injury and all sorts of health problems.

I am not against racing, far from it. I simply wish that the breeders/owners/trainers would be a bit smarter about it.

what the H***! the camera just swept over her fall n ignored her! they didnt say anything like, "oh no! * belles is down. The game filly fell ovr her feet. is she injured?" they didnt even care that a champ filly was about to die!

@thedemonzozo Just because you eat horse meat does not mean you have a stronger bond with the horse,a bond is a thing that could never be broken, and by eating it that is a bond broken. i bet alot of horse people will never in their life eat a horse. i understand that you can like the horse and its meat but the bond between human and horse is very real. i hope you know that in order for you to eat the horse it was sent through slaughter.Millions if blades cutting through a thing that was loved.

Second of all horses shouldnt be treated like a thing that never matter because your wrong, and they are my life and I love them and a horse and rider have a bond that shouldnt be broken because by horse slaughter.. so call me when you pull the stick out, okay? and understand that you wont win this.. so give up trying.. thanks :)

@MiniDreams77 You are mistaken. I am thrifty and think such good meat should not be wasted, regardless of the love. It is precious where I am from and could feed many. What better way to honour the horse than to put smiles on the faces of those who eat it.

@thedemonzozo What a horrible thing to say....i will never in my life eat horse meat knowing that the animal im eating was very loved by its owner and had to go through alot to say good-bye....you are a fucking jerk.
