  • avis use the same measurements for ash, ash and redoak are similar. Ash is better in tension though

  • I enjoyed your bow making demonstration/ series very much, thank you. There are a couple of things I wish to bring up if you don't mind. I'm an old wood worker and I know what I'm talking about. Always do your glueing on smooth or planed surfaces, if you rough them up, you are damaging the wood cell and the joint could eventually fail. Also, oil your pulleys, the noise is distracting.

  • @calvarez081 thanks for watching. i am not an old wood worker, however my experience has taught me that using a toothing plane or hacksaw blade on the surfaces make a super strong joint. greater surface area for the epoxy or glue to hold. i have test that on about 100 bows. now on some of the few pieces of furniture i make i dont do that. oh and i'll work on the pulley.

  • The handle is 9 inches, right, with a 2 inch fade. I have never built a bow, but your video is great. I will follow your instructions, thanks

  • yes that right, actually the fade will continue into the bow about another 1/4 of an inch. good luck!

  • i good set of scrapers is about $10. but a kitchen knife or sharp pair of scissors will work. its all about using what you got to get yourself shooting a bow. i've used spoons to make trade points for arrows!! glad you enjoyed it. i hope it was of use.

  • So do these boards already have one growth ring through the bak!???

  • @bybeet01

    Thanks for everything.

Your movies are the best on YouTube and saw a lot of movies about bows..

If the lines do not go perfectly all the way, what can it cause?

bow with less stretch power? Or it will break more easily?

How do you check the maple tree?

the maple tree has kinds of qualities, even the quality of the pine (which is not good)

    Thanks for everything

  • Hi and thanks for the excellent movies. I have a ash board. I bought it by the rules you gave, thanks. What measures do you recommend to make the ash bow? length, width, thickness. Can I make it like the red oak bow - two inches? right now i am not building until you will give your answer

please answer soon Thank you Avishai.

  • i used your vids to make my own board bow . my first bow broke within a week but i expected it. my 8th board bow is 60#@28" and have been using it for a month now. my next project is a recurve bow. can you post a vid on how to make recurve bow selfbow?

  • hey nice job man. i really haven't been making mine bend near the fades NEAR enough, it really helped to watch your process.

that and the scraper, after watching that, i see why i need one. i don't even wanna tell you what i have been using.

    nice work.
