They were cheering for the national anthem...we cheer at the end when they say "land of the free and home of the brave". We don't scream wildly throughout the anthem out of respect, but maybe that's how you do it in your country.
And I hope you're joking about the big flag, because that was just about the most ignorant comment I have heard in a while.

Yeah that happens on purpose. When there is a football game and it comes to the national anthem you stand there and listen to the protagonist. Everybody is screaming because that is a part of the anthem, like answering "oh say does that star spangled banner yet wet" when it comes to this line there alway a lot of people screaming. At a football game that was always that way.
