好友來港，我當然要盡地主之誼，替他打點食宿，可是適逢甚麼皮革展，旺區的酒店大多訂滿，我要連打十幾個電話才於尖沙咀找到間又貴又細的房。從電話中，我又留意到一個港式­英文的特點。酒店員工接電話時總會說句：Can I help you?

"How can I help you?" causally speaking, most situations.

"How may I help you? The most formal and polite manner, phone or banking reception, hotel, dinner.

I have made a huge mess on the table, trying to find the right size of this incredibly bargain party dress. A sales approached me with a not so pleasant, definitely bitchy looking, said to me "Can I help you?"

"Just stop what you are doing now!" is what she meant.
