I hate when groups/schools/choirs interpret songs from musical and jazz them up or make them more (or in this case LESS) than what they were meant to be. It's just... awful. It's not cute, it doesn't sound good, and the writers of the music probably don't like it either. I'm sorry guys, but this just... wasn't a success... I suggest talking to your director about how bad of an idea it sounds before you end up doing it

My 8th grade chorus did this song once!

umm not really sure why people were smiling during this... its supposed to be about how justice was denied, its not exactly a happy message. smiles while speaking of oppression. nice job there.

Wow, so I posted before the song was done....what was that jazz ending!? So lame.

Background singers are too loud, you can't hardly hear the words and you miss out on the message. I loved the beginning though.
I usually don't like it when groups "jazz up" songs either, but that wasn't jazzing it up. That was taking a song and kicking its ass and I mean that in a good way. I don't think there was anything wrong with the song or its performance. The director and the performers are allowed to interpret the music however they like. I don't think the writers really have a say in the matter, unless they are drastically changing the song or claiming it as their own. That wasn't awful, that was amazing!
