@incongruousme It's probably because they take more code 3 runs than any other emergency vehicle. Of fire and EMS runs, EMS takes about 75% of the runs. I've taken about 20,000 runs (fire and EMS) and never had an accident with a patient in the back. The vast majority were enroute to a call. (None were ever my fault or the driver of my vehicle)

I believe I read once that ambulances have the highest rate of collisions among emergency vehicles. So if you survive your medical emergency, good luck surviving the ride to the hospital!
