  • @MultiStar83 More of a world sport than before. People like the longer baseline rallies in the game now more too.

  • @davd1986 But John McEnroe has a point. Especially during the first years of the new Arthur Ashe stadium (established in 1997), it nearly never seemed to be sold-out. Even at finals you could find empty seats there! This has changed in recent years. It seems that tennis is more popular today than it was during the late 1990s.

  • @splendid1000 Every surface except Roland Garros has been slowed down. I know Safin 'thanked' Wimbledon for slowing the grass down because it gave him and his game more time to adjust to the bounces and it helped him with his movement, because after his knee injury, he couldn't move half as fast as he used to when he was 100% healthy. I know pretty much all the commentators say this as well. The Australian Open is like a faster clay court now, and the USO is not fast anymore, it's medium fast

  • Biggest crowd Mac has ever seen at Arthur Ashe!?! There were quite a bit of open seats, as far as I can tell!

  • @splendid1000

    Yes.

The funny thing is, that by trying to find a surface that fits for all and thus allows a variety of tactics and styles, the change of surfaces in fact forces all players to use more or less the same style and suites best for players like Nadal and Djokovic. So, there is a strong tendency of uniforming the players.

    It was different before.
