Did you MOVE the decoy on a daily basis? Having a decoy in the same place 24/7 would cause a heron to figure out it's a fake...

@mmmmmarcus Oh I know....this happened a few years ago, and I knew to be careful....I tried every other means first. Didn't want to do it, but had to. This pissa is, there's marshland all around me, so go figure.....

@beebo02 Be careful, in america, shooting any egrets is a federal offense. Due to the migratory bird treaty act, you can face a harsh jail term for even touching an egret feather. I shit you not!

Netting a few inches over the water should work to show the bird that it's no longer a buffet. Most give up after a couple of days. The decoys usually work, but not during mating season (March/April), and not if left in the same place.
