It's time once again to thank some kind folks for sending some cool stuff.

The anniversary beer is the Brackie - MASTNE first brewed one year ago for the anniversary of the legendary establishment town of CIESZYN.

According to legend, in 810 three sons of a Slav king -- Bolko, Leszko and Cieszko, met here after a long pilgrimage, found a spring, and in their happiness decided to found a new settlement. They called it Cieszyn, from the Old Polish words cieszym sie ("I'm happy").
Officially the first written reference to Cieszyn came in a document from Pope Hadrianus IV for the Wroclaw bishop Valter from 23 April 1155 but unofficially (according newest resarch) the first written reference to Cieszyn comes from the year 1000 (in some documents from Wroclaw's bishop).
This year the beer was brewed for the second time to celebrate the 165th anniversary of our brewery.
The Archdukal Brewery, or Bracki Browar Zamkowy (Brothers Castle Brewery), was built in 1846 by Albrecht Frederick of Habsburg.
The beer is a top fermented beer , 5,8% ABV, 13% OG and it is brewed with four malts: Pilsener, Munich, Caramel and Wheat.
The name MASTNE comes from the old word Mastny and it means "fleshy", "oily", "fat" of "full" - which emphasized the richness of its components and structure of the beer. It is not a "copy" of some old reciepe - they just used an old name of the beer. MASTNE is the first historically known name of Cieszyn's Beer - which was brewed long before the brewery was build. We are sure that the beer in Cieszyn is brewed at least since 1217.
Brackie' you can pronounce like Bratzkye.

  • Hey Craig! First of all I'd like to thank you for your videos. They are the main reason I dared order my Beerkit(Coopers). I just started my first batch tonight and I THINK I did it right, real excited to taste the result. Anyways, I got one Q that needs a A and you are the person I feel is qualified to answere it. I'm keeping the fermenter(the "beer making bucket") in a spare room we have with no windows. Does the fermenting process require any kind of light to work or can I keep it dark?

  • @DrTransDickables Keeping it dark is the best thing you can do. Daylight can "skunk" the beer. So brew on and enjoy.

    Cheers!

  • Whats the news on the T-shirt front, I cannot find that video anymore

  • @supervascular That video is now off line and I am tallying up all the votes.

  • great vid, cant wait for the cream ale one. those yeasts are what we frequently use in the u.s. safale05 is particularly sturdy. next time ill have to send you champagne yeast to brew hard cider. a personal q - does your wife mind all your equipment and set -up? im lucky as im unusual as a female brewer and my hubby drinks the beer i make, so, no problems.cheers!

  • @lkcheat I just bottled/kegged your cream ale. It tastes very nice flat, so I think it's going to be a great one. My wife doesn't mind my brewing apparel as long as it's in the basement. I've been brewing since before we met 20 years ago, so I think she'd find it weird if the equipment was gone.
