Oregon resident Barbara Wagner urges Washington state citizens to vote 'no' on Initiative 1000 (Physician-assisted suicide) in the upcoming elections. Besides being at fundamental odds with the sanctity of human life, the proposed initiative is dangerously flawed, and has similar practical flaws that have led Oregon, and the Netherlands, down a horrific slippery slope. In her case, her insurance compant refused to pay for her medications, but said they would pay for drugs to kill herself. Don't let this happen in Wasington!
This abomination by her CURRENT INS. COMPANY to deny her of treatment to possible heal her (but OK to KILL HER) was ALL DONE with the CURRENT, DEMONIC health care & ins. industry he have NOW!!
All the reason we need something different. Perhaps not govt. run but definitely DEFINITELY NOT the CURRENT, DEMONIC INSURANCE (DEATH) COMPANIES!!
They celebrate & get paid when some sick person die b/c they can NOW keep the $ they were spending on them!!

A doctor's duty is to their patients, not their moral bigotry.

Simple - refer the patient to another doctor.

Funny how he would LOSE compassion and give in to fearmongering when he himself is terminally ill.

How would a doctor in Washington, when faced with a patient adamant about 'death with dignity', deal with this situation?
What would be the best way to approach a patient like that? What if the provider doesn't believe in such a thing? If you're a primary care provider and this patient has been with you ever since you started practice, how can you tell them to see someone else?

I find it interesting that some of the common sense information is not being talked about. For instance, Fox News ran an article and series with the title: "Oregon Offers Terminal Patients Doctor-Assisted Suicide Instead of Medical Care", on Monday, July 28, 2008. It can be found by googling that title.

This is only the begining of the slippery slope of legalizing euthanasia. With the well-intentioned initial pursuits comes the eventual abuse of power to the detriment of those vulnerable individuals we're supposedly trying to help. Society isn't interested in helping the vulnerable; they're only concerned about what caring for someone with needs will cost them physically, socially, and economically. We are eliminating opportunites to show compassion making us more and more selfish
