http://www.pbs.org/frontline/tehranbureau/deathintehran/ FRONTLINE examines the life and death of Neda Agha Soltan -- whose murder during Iran's post-election protests was filmed on a camera phone and uploaded to the web -- and how her name became a rallying cry for the reform movement in "A Death in Tehran," airing Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 9PM on PBS (check local listings).

At the height of the protests following Iran's controversial presidential election this summer, a young woman named Neda Agha Soltan was shot and killed on the streets of Tehran. Her death -- filmed on a camera phone, then uploaded to the web -- quickly became an international outrage, and Agha Soltan became the face of a powerful movement that threatened the hard-line government's hold on power. With the help of a unique network of correspondents in and out of the country, FRONTLINE investigates the life and death of the woman whose image remains a potent symbol for those who want to keep the reform movement alive. The film also explores a number of unanswered questions in the aftermath of the greatest upheaval in Iran since the 1979 revolution: How many were arrested and killed as the security forces attempted to contain the growing protest movement? To what extent was the presidential vote manipulated? What is the future of the movement that seems to have been silenced?

Watch "A Death in Tehran" on air and online beginning Tuesday, November 17 on PBS (check local listings) and at http://www.pbs.org/frontline/tehranbureau/deathintehran/

  • @bertmarx mine too

  • I am not worried that Islam or any religion or fanatical political system is going to overrun my country, or England or Canada, ect. This documentary is not just about the dangers of theocracy, but the dangers of abandoning reason.

  • @nimrooo

Wow you sound stupid. Afraid of islam? LOL

  • Believe it or not, there is an echo of a disturbing truth in those words. In Iran, some of the Basiji guards go by the rule of "let's kill her! she is so pretty" Another woman by the name of Taraneh Mousavi died by that rule, because she was pretty. The guards arrested her near one of the demonstrations, took her to a detention center and gang raped her to death. It's a sad sad world.

  • That's what Islamic regimes do...kill people (mostly their own people), and that's why the west must support any and all democratic revolts wherever they occur in the Islamic world. The people of Iran aren't trying to destroy or rebel against their religion...they just want to secularize their governments...That's something Islamic regimes can't afford to have happen. Ahmadinejad is Ghoul(capital G) and he'll kill as many Iranians as he has to to remain in power.

  • i see you censored my comment you war mongers.

"why kill her! she is so pretty"

What an asinine thing to say! Like what, it's okay to kill people that AREN'T pretty? You know there's an old saying that goes, "It's better to remain silent and be *thought* a fool, then to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

  • Another "must watch" Frontline episode!
