Listen to the song "Chicago," by the Oriole Terrace Orchestra as recorded on a Brunswick 78rpm record. This record dates to around 1922.
The record is being played on my 1914 Victor Victrola IV talking machine. From 1911 to 1926, the Victrola IV was the smallest and least expensive phonograph in the Victor product line. It uses disposable steel needles that must be replaced after every play. The sound comes out of the wooden grille in the front and volume control is achieved by opening or closing the doors. This machine is really loud, even with a soft tone needle and the doors closed!
"Victrola" is a generic term that most people use to describe any antique phonograph. In actuality, "Victrola" was a registered trademark of the Victor Talking Machine Company. It was used by Victor to name their line of internal horn phonographs.

Phil, another great recording! I remember recording Paul Whiteman's version with John (on his VV-VIa, which features Stan's cat checking out the machine in my apartment), and I'm surprised it's not one of his more popular videos. It's really a lovely and timeless song. By the way, thanks for your comments on his recent park videos, as that's how I found your channel. — MordEth
