It seems that despite certain art pundits pronouncements, painting ain't dead, on the contrary, there appears to be more of this activity happening now than in a long time. Jimbo Blachly has received considerable attention for his installation/construction and sculptural work but, about four years ago, he began secretly backsliding into painting after a thirty year hiatus. Despite their diminutive size these pictures, some evoking vast atmospheric landscapes while others explore simple austere abstract space, embody a innocent home baked transcendence.

  • Yes, Yes, Yes... Thanks JK. I often find myself really attracted to the work of artists who jump around from one medium to another. I really love that this group of work was done secretly, as you mentioned. Truly amazing work. I specifically agree with your Forrest Bess and Milton Avery comments.
