Sony invented cd with help from Philips? Somebody wasn't paying attention.

You should be able to build your own. I built my own mp3 cd player many years ago, so it should able to build a sacd player.
A Xilinx or Arduino or that minidsp.com stuff. It should have coax as well as stereo out. But I have an external dac, so bitstreaming should suffice in the beginning.

@ChristianEvolution Current models are not. They were not when you commented. Sony said too few people use that capability so they no longer included it.

The PS3 is a SACD player...

@HyperfastMalmsteen For more information on just what SACD is capable of, why not ask some questions at sa-cd.net. There is a forum there with a lot people who are convinced that superior audio is capable with SA-CD without investing as much money as you may think!

a really good mastered CD sound really good..if using real studio monitor speakers in the 600 dollar and up ranges and good thick cables..good amplifier with a digital connection to a Studio CD player or a Laserdisc with the cd tray inbuilt..because everybody knows that a Laserdisc is also a very very veryyy good cd player that can compete with cd players in the range of 1000 dollar...but SACD or DVD audi..you need a studio to hear the difference...because most cd´s are crappy mastered
I'm really excited about the format but don't you need higher grade cables and speakers?? And yeah the ps3 doesn't support the format no more only the early models do

There are a lot of different opinons on "what you need". I would personally dive right in and then gradually improve the system as you see fit. This is a matter of personal preference, not some kind of "rules" where you need this or that.

Current PS3s no longer support the format.
BTW, don't expect any difference in sound compared to regular CDs if you only have a consumer grade AV receiver and speakers.

I do experience better sound with a Sony which beats out my Cambridge Audio CD PLayer. The Sony was only $200 Cndn when it hit the market.
