RIP Sherrill
-
What cd or record is this from?thanks
-
Ed Hill was a Statesmen in the late 1970's!!!!
-
Even Jd was a Statesmen right before the Masters V was formed.
-
Yes, he was with the group in the late 70's. The line-up for that group was Rosie, Buddy Burton (lead), Ed Hill, Tommy Thompson (bass), and Hovie. I have some cassettes of this group and in my opinion, they were one of the best line-up's of this group!
-
I know Sherril and Jack and of course Hovie where in the Statesmen, but was Ed Hill ever a Statesmen?
-
James B. had been singing over 50 years and wanted to retire from touring. Of course, that didn't last long. He was solo for a while then formed the James Blackwood Quartet for a while. Rosie had health problems and lost his strength. Jake had health problems and wanted to retire as well. Hovie and JD kept it going for a while. Hovie went with the Palmetto State Q. and JD re-started the Stamps.
-
Where did Rosie, Jake, and James go? I only recognize JD and Hovie....what happened? Where did they go?
-
Still at the top of their game after all these years! JD and Hovie keep shining!

Good beat. They're all wonderful singers.
Dean can probably list the exact year. I'm 90% sure it's between 1986 and 1988. Sherrill Neilsen was with the group twice, but Jack Toney and Ed Hill didn't join until after Jake Hess and James Blackwood quit. If my info is correct, those two left in 1986.
In 1988, the group name was changed to the Stamps...this occurred during the National Quartet Convention that year, again...if my info is correct.

Either late 87 or early 88.
