Reagan's policies did not get our nation out of the recession in the early 1980's, nor did it promote growth there after. The Fed. tried something called opportunistic disinflation from the late 1970's until the recession finally occurred. Inflation was at the 20% rate. Once the money supply was contracted, and reintroduced, it offered a large amount of liquidity into the market. Thats how we got out of the recession. Also, the computer industry began to take off at this time. Reagan was lucky.

@disclaimer05 I agree but also the US has always had a severe recession after every war. The economy gets heated up by all the government defense spending on war and war preparation and then exports that value OUT of America. Why not sell those armored Humvees to the Iraqis or drive them to Saudi Arabia? Anyway defense spending then cuts back with little government cash left to help the PEOPLE. Sound familiar?
