I could be wrong, but I remember reading when all this first started that many of the states had bond, retirement funds, etc invested in funds that were tied to those derivative investments of mortgages.

Were exactly are you beliefs being oppressed, or shown intolerance. I didn't hear of the police arresting anyone at these parties. And I haven't heard anything about weapons bans. I did see the "governor" of Pennsylvania talk about assault weapons bans after the three cops were killed by the guy who "heard" Obama was going to outlaw guns. But I did see a bunch of ignorant and blatantly racist signs directed at the President. Were were these mas protest when bush was running up the debt?

This wasn't about the State you lived in. If it were it would have been organized in California, for California. It was a orchestrated movement by the very powers that put us in this mess and promoted by the Fox News channel. How could you not see this?

It's not neccesarily completely about the taxes... it's HOW the government is spending the taxes. Take California. The state is 42 billion in debt, but residents are being taxed out the booty. Where is all the money going? Not to the schools, not to the roads... The tea parties are about FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, on the GOP side, the DEM side, and the citizen's side.

This pretty much showed ignorance the minute they mentioned members of ACORN "infiltrating" these gatherings. And to me this just shows they have no real idea what ACORN is an no I would not be considered a liberal. I'm just not ignorant.

Canada has sales tax as well
You are wrong. Both republicans and democrats are protesting because of the TAXES.

TO ALL WHO ARE IGNORANT regarding the tea parties:
The movement is a protest against the growth of the government and its subtle encroachment on the liberties guaranteed to the citizen by the constitution of the United States.
The subtle, quiet encroachment occurs on the financial plane (heavy taxes, fees, tariffs, etc.); the legal plane (attempts to ban arms, ignoring the second amendment) and the social plane (intolerance and oppression of peoples' diverse beliefs)
