An Australian worker has been shot dead in Indonesias restive Papua province. The separatist Free Papua Movement (OPM) is the prime suspect for the attack.
Papua's simmering insurgency is on the boil after an Australian man was shot dead near near the huge Grasberg mine - the latest surge of violence in the restive Indonesian province.
The 29-year-old victim, described as a technical expert at the vast Freeport gold and copper mine, was killed by a single shot as he rode in the back of a vehicle.
Other passengers in the car were unharmed.
Police believe the attack was carried out by the separatist Free Papua Movement (OPM).
The Grasberg mine, which is run by the U.S.-based Freeport McMoran Copper and Gold company, has long been a flashpoint of separatist tensions.
In 2002, two American teachers and their Indonesian colleague were killed in an ambush near the Freeport facility
Boasting the world's largest recoverable reserves of copper and and gold, Papuans are unhappy with their share of the wealth; there's also anger over the mine's environmental impact.
Indonesia's anti-terrorism unit tightened security in the area after the shooting.
An arson attack earlier this week destroyed a bus and a security post. In a further sign of escalating violence, a security guard employed by the mine was shot dead on Sunday.
This has become a tradition in the Indonesian military, which make cheap propaganda to enlist the help of Australia and America.
This can be seen also in terrorism, which the Indonesian military who earn money and free for military traning from Australia or America.

how does it feel, if the outsiders just come and take all the benefits out of a land and leave the owners of the land starving to death?
more than 1000 men, women and children have died.. do you think they are just gonna sit and watch them dying? i don't think so
so before you start judging my people, learn the circumstances first.. we are not in US or England that people have the right to speak, we're not. we don't have the right to speak and we don't have the right to live
thats what happen

Poor guy. My thoughts go out to his family. How can the OPM justify this?? How can violence get them the independence they want? Take a few notes off the pages of Martin Luther King and Ghandi, then apply them.
