how to actually find the real cause of the differences?you say that even if theres a significant difference between Jay and Ben, it does not necessarily mean that Jay and Ben are the reason, right?so how do we actually find the reason?

can i use 2 categorical variables for t test?

Do you mean running a t-test with 2 independent categorical variables and one interval/ratio dependent variable? Or do you mean running a t-test with only two variables, both of which are categorical? Either way I think the answer is no... in the first case I think you'd actually want to run a two-way ANOVA, and in the second case I think you'd want to run a Chi-Squared test. I've been wrong before though... :)
