@paull244 One of Pauls major considerations for adopting this position was to free the right arm from holding the guitar (and not just the problems with his back as there are many alternatives to the foot stool) this allows a far greater range of expressive possibilities. @DuoContinuo You speak truth. As a classical guitar student trained with a footstool, I really messed up my lumbar spine. I explained the footstool to my chiropractor and he nearly had a heart attack. For those interested in playing in a more familiar angle than Galbraith's "cello" position (which is indeed comfortable and ergonomic), I recommend a guitar rest that props the treble side of the upper bout above the left thigh, reproducing the classical position with both feet on the floor.

@paull244 i dont know any facts, but my guess is because it feels better to him. Have you ever tried that position? Its actually quite comfy i think.
